As one of the premium plants in our tree centre, the lavender shrub is a special kind of plant and is unlike any other plant out there.

Known for its breath-taking beauty, Lavender has a grassy floral smell and presence that will be the highlight of any garden this summer.

It is the type of gift that hits on so many senses. Visually this violet shrub catches attention. It’s lightly wooly texture along with it’s delightful aroma make it a favourite for many of our customers (and all the fathers out there).

What is so Different about Lavender

One of the biggest advantages is that it’s very complimentary to other trees. It’s a perfect combination to plant around other trees. This gives a great mix of colour in any garden.

You can imagine this at the height of summer with a beautiful hawthorn tree.

Order Your Lavender

Planting Instructions for Lavender Hidcote in Ireland

  1. Site and Soil: Choose a sunny spot with well-drained. Amend heavy soils with sand or gravel.
  2. Planting Time and Spacing: Plant in spring to summer or early autumn, spacing plants 30-45 cm apart. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and plant level with the soil surface.
  3. Watering: Water thoroughly after planting and regularly until established. Once established, water sparingly when soil is dry.
  4. Mulching and Pruning: Use gravel mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Trim tips after planting and annually prune by one-third after flowering.
  5. Winter Protection and Fertilization: Protect plants in cold areas with mulch or horticultural fleece during frost. Use minimal fertilizer, applying a balanced type in spring if neede

When to plant lavender in Ireland

It depends on the lavender. The best time to plant tender lavender is in spring, from March through to May. However lavender hidcote (below) is also excellent for summer planting.

How big do Lavender plants grow in Ireland?

Once fully mature, the plant generally grows to a height and spread of about 1 metre/3 feet.
